The Kano State Government has assured that its ongoing urban road rehabilitation projects will not only ease traffic but also support environmental sustainability through reduced emissions and cleaner intra-city mobility.
Commissioner for Works, Marwan Ahmed, disclosed this while speaking with journalists on Monday, assuring residents that the infrastructure upgrades, initially scheduled for completion in October, will now be delivered by December 2025.
He said the projects, which include rehabilitation of Murtala Mohammed Way, Club Road, Sharada, Audu Bako Way, and Wudil Road, are designed to enhance efficient vehicle flow and reduce traffic-induced pollution in the city.
“These roads will improve urban movement, reduce congestion, and contribute to a cleaner environment by cutting down idle emissions from vehicles stuck in traffic,” Ahmed said.
The commissioner emphasised that the Kano Urban Renewal initiative is not just about infrastructure expansion but also a shift towards environmentally responsive urban planning.
He added that the multi-billion naira Tal’udu and Dan’agundi Interchange flyovers and underpasses critical to decongesting major intersections are also on track for December delivery.
“We are executing the projects to specifications, and when completed, they will reduce travel time and air pollution levels in key parts of the city,” he noted.
Ahmed called for public understanding and cooperation as the government prioritises infrastructure that supports health, mobility, and environmental wellbeing.
