I’m committed to fighting desertification – NAGGW DG

By George George Idowu

The newly appointed Director General of National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) Mr. Saleh Abubakar, has said he would continue combating desertification as he assumes office.

This was disclosed in a statement released recently by the head of information of the agency, Mrs Sule Pauline.

Abubakar, who was appointed by President Tinubu, GCFR, formally succeeded Dr. Yusuf Maina Bukar, as NAGGW DG in Abuja.

He said he is committed to continuing where his predecessor stopped and enhancing the efforts to combat desertification and promote sustainable development in Nigeria’s dry lands.

He emphasized his dedication to building on the foundation laid by his predecessor and called for the full support of the agency’s management and staff to work collaboratively towards achieving the agency’s mandate.

In his words: “I pledge my commitment to duty and seek the maximum support of the management and staff to work as a cohesive team.”

He also praised Dr. Bukar for his conscientious efforts and professionalism in advancing the Great Green Wall program.

On the part of Dr. Bukar, he highlighted the significant successes achieved under his leadership, particularly in addressing land degradation in the 11 frontline states affected by desertification.

He thanked the management team for their cooperation and urged them to extend the same support to the new Director General.
Mr. Abubakar, a graduate of Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, brings extensive experience in public administration and various sectors to his new role at NAGGW.

The NAGGW continues its mission to halt desertification and restore degraded lands, contributing to the sustainable development of Nigeria’s dry lands.
