ICCREA advances climate advocacy in Taraba engagement

By Abbas Nazil

The Initiative for Climate Change and Renewable Energy Advocacy (ICCREA) has strengthened its climate advocacy efforts through a strategic visit to the Nigerian Army 6 Brigade in Jalingo, Taraba State.

The engagement focused on sensitizing officers and personnel on climate change, environmental sustainability, and renewable energy adoption.

During the visit, ICCREA delivered an extensive knowledge-sharing session emphasizing the urgency of climate action and the role institutions must play in tackling environmental challenges.

The organization highlighted key areas such as climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, the adoption of renewable energy solutions, and the need for collaborative institutional frameworks.

ICCREA also commended the Nigerian Army, particularly the 6 Brigade, for its role in maintaining peace and security, which supports sustainable development initiatives in the state.

As part of the engagement, ICCREA commemorated World Forest Day 2026, using the platform to raise awareness about forest conservation and environmental sustainability.

The event underscored the importance of afforestation, biodiversity protection, and the critical role forests play in mitigating climate change.

It also encouraged both institutional and community participation in environmental sustainability efforts.

In furtherance of its advocacy, ICCREA donated over 120 Sustainable Development Goals books and 200 economic tree seedlings to support afforestation within the Brigade.

The organization expanded its outreach through a radio sensitization program on Udaforz Radio, designed to engage the wider public on environmental issues.

The program, anchored by Mr Folorunsho Dayo Oluwafemi, featured experts including Dr Joseph Gimba and Professor Mary Emerhi.

Discussions centered on the impact of climate change on forests, sustainable forest management, and strategies to reduce deforestation.

Listeners actively participated by calling in to ask questions, share views, and seek guidance on sustainable practices.

Key messages from the program emphasized the need for increased government action, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and the promotion of green jobs.

In recognition of ICCREA’s contributions, the Brigade presented an Award of Excellence to the organization and its Director.

The visit concluded with a commitment to strengthen partnerships, expand environmental programs, and promote renewable energy adoption through joint initiatives.
