Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched a Northern Nigeria Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicle initiative in Kano to promote cleaner transportation, reduce fuel costs and support environmental sustainability.
The initiative was unveiled on Wednesday as part of efforts to expand the adoption of alternative energy transportation systems across northern Nigeria, according to officials involved in the programme.
Yusuf stated that the initiative is designed to encourage the use of cleaner energy sources and reduce dependence on conventional fossil fuels in the transportation sector.
According to the governor, the programme aligns with broader efforts to improve energy efficiency, lower transportation costs and reduce environmental pollution linked to vehicle emissions.
Yusuf also noted that the adoption of CNG and electric vehicles could create economic opportunities while supporting Nigeria’s transition toward cleaner energy systems.
“This initiative represents a significant step toward sustainable transportation and economic development in Northern Nigeria,” Yusuf stated during the launch ceremony.
Officials involved in the programme explained that the initiative would promote investment in alternative fuel infrastructure and support innovation in clean transportation technologies.
Stakeholders at the event further highlighted the environmental benefits of reduced carbon emissions and improved urban air quality associated with cleaner vehicle technologies.
The launch reflects increasing interest in sustainable transport systems and cleaner energy alternatives in Nigeria as governments and stakeholders seek solutions to urban pollution, energy costs and climate-related environmental challenges, issues closely monitored in environmental reporting by NatureNews Africa.
