The Kogi State Government has taken a significant step towards advancing renewable energy initiatives by partnering with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN).
The collaboration, aimed at promoting youth empowerment through innovative energy projects, aligns with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s broader vision for sustainable development in the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Abdulkareem Suleiman Onyekehi, Special Adviser on Youth Empowerment Programmes to the Governor, confirmed the partnership after an official visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Onyekehi commended Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Director General of the Energy Commission, for his dedication to improving Nigeria’s renewable energy sector, praising his contributions as a native of Kogi State.
“Dr. Abdullahi is a source of pride to Kogi, particularly Kogi Central. His efforts in the energy sector reflect the potential of Kogi State on a national level,” Onyekehi said. “We had productive discussions on youth empowerment interventions, and several initiatives are already in the pipeline for Kogi’s young people, courtesy of the Energy Commission.”
The partnership is part of Governor Ododo’s broader strategy to drive economic development through renewable energy projects that will empower the state’s youth.
Onyekehi emphasised that the state government is committed to adopting policies that create lasting benefits for Kogi residents, particularly through sustainable energy.
“We are committed to fostering a productive and sustainable relationship with the Energy Commission of Nigeria,” Onyekehi noted. “Our focus is on creating more opportunities for Kogi’s youth, and renewable energy will play a key role in this empowerment effort.”
The collaboration underscores Kogi State’s growing focus on renewable energy as a means of both economic empowerment and environmental sustainability, positioning the state as a leader in green energy initiatives in Nigeria.
