Jospong group of companies, a Ghanaian firm that specializes in waste management, has announced that it has signed an agreement with the Lagos State government to transform the city’s waste management system.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Tuesday by Joseph Agyepong, the Chief Executive Officer of Jospong, and Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources of Lagos State.
Lagos, the largest city in Africa, produces more than 13000 metric tonnes of waste every day, due to its vibrant population, bustling markets and dynamic industries.
To improve the quality of life of its residents and protect the environment, the Lagos State government is collaborating with Jospong group of companies to build solid and liquid waste management facilities that will cater to the city’s growing needs.
The partnership aims to create a material recovery facility that will sort and recycle waste, reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfills. The partnership will also provide tricycles to PSP waste collectors, who are local entrepreneurs that collect waste from households and businesses. These tricycles will enable them to transport waste more efficiently and safely.

The agreement will be implemented through the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), which are the agencies responsible for overseeing waste management in the city.
