Foundation Integrates UNIBEN Students in Clean Energy Action, Sustainable Agriculture Solutions

In a groundbreaking event held on December 6, 2024, a civil society organisation, Lilbeckking Development Foundation (LIBEDEF), took students of the University of Benin, (UNIBEN), through a captivating presentation on the transformative potential of renewable energy and sustainable agriculture.

The program was a convergence of powerful ideas, expertise, and youthful enthusiasm as the event proffered solutions that hold the key to protecting our climate and securing a brighter future.

The event at UNIBEN marked a significant milestone in the ongoing mission to ignite a passion for sustainability and climate action among young minds.

By equipping students and youths with the knowledge, tools, and inspiration to become clean energy and agriculture innovators, the body is paving the way for a future where communities thrive on locally-sourced, nutrient-dense foods powered by the sun’s abundant energy.

During the presentations, speakers from the body emphasized the multifaceted benefits of integrating renewable energy, particularly solar power, into modern agricultural practices.

comprising LIBEDEF Program Manager Administration, Hannah Ahimokahi and Media and Communications Manager of Environmental Defenders Network, Elvira Jordan, provided students with a comprehensive understanding of how clean, solar-powered solutions can revolutionize the food and energy systems of the future, safeguarding our planet in the process.

NatureNews learnt that the event captured the opportunities in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving precious natural resources, boosting productivity and creating new economic opportunities.

Co-Director of LIBEDEF, Destiny Aigbokhae, during a presentation, stated that the goal of the program was to educate the students on Renewable Energy and the possibilities it brings to agriculture.

“Our goal is to empower young minds with the knowledge and vision to become the agents of positive climate action that our communities and our planet so desperately need. As we solarize the health care sector in Nigeria, we should also not forget that sustainable agricultural development and energy are essential to help save our climate and future,” Aigbokhae said.

On his part, the Director of LIBEDEF, Beckley Irumudomon, stated the organization’s commitment towards engaging in dialogues on clean energy, forging new partnerships, and empowering the next generation of leaders to build a brighter, more sustainable, climate-resilient tomorrow.

“The future is ours to shape, and we’re ready to lead the way in safeguarding our planet,” he noted.
