FG to cut down old trees as fallen trunk kills truck driver in C/River

River State government, the Ministry of Environment has said to be working towards bringing down all old trees across the state, as fallen trees killed truck driver
The accident occurred over the weekend at about 12 midnight.
An official of the Ministry of Environment, whose names are not disclosed to reporters, said the ministry is working in collaboration with the state governments in cutting down the old trees to avoid a repeat of another ugly incident.
The conductor of the truck said that the driver was waiting his turn for clearance when the incident occurred.
One truck driver had been confirmed dead after a tree fell on him around 11:40 pm night, along the Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar, Cross River State.
The conductor of the truck expressed that the articulated vehicle had been loaded and the driver was waiting his turn for clearance when he fell asleep.
The eyewitness said he heard the thud of the fallen tree but that before he could wake the driver, the latter had died.
He further called on the government to help protect the lives of truck drivers and others by removing old trees across the state.
