FG seeks solutions to fertiliser price surge in Africa

By Awyetu Asabe Hope

The Federal Government has expressed concern over rising fertiliser prices across Africa, warning that global supply disruptions and the Middle East crisis are worsening shortages and threatening food production.

Speaking at the France-Africa Summit in Nairobi, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, said the fertiliser crisis poses a major threat to farmers’ productivity and food security across the continent.

Kyari said Nigeria is developing strategies to cushion the impact and ensure fertilisers remain available and affordable for farmers nationwide.

He also called on France and other development partners to support African countries in strengthening agricultural resilience and addressing vulnerabilities caused by global supply chain disruptions.

The meeting, organised by the International Fund for Agricultural Development and partners, focused on improving agricultural productivity and food security in Africa.
