FG inaugurates 2021 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey, National Immunization Coverage Report

The Vice President of Nigeria Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has officially launched Nigeria’s 2021 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) and National Immunization Coverage Survey (NICS) report, in providing reliable nationwide and international comparable data to monitor the situation of children and women across the country.

This was revealed on Tuesday in Abuja in a Press Statement at the launching ceremony by the National Bureau of statistics in collaboration with UNICEF to launch the 2021 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey/ National Immunization Coverage Survey Report.

The report stated that, the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey is a household survey development indicators in general and the situation of children and women generally, that it has developed over the years to respond to changing data needs, expanding from 28 indicators in the round in 1999 to 200 in its current sixth.

In the keynote address, the vice president of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, who was represented by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, stated that the outcome of the report will enable the government master plan to scale up vaccination efforts to ensure total coverage of the entire population in acquires.

The VP assured that the governments will do all in their power to strengthen all sectors of the economy to ensure accuracy in terms of development across the national.

In his welcome remarks, Adeyemi Adeniran, Chief Executive Officer National Bureau of Statistics and Statistician-General of the Federation, said that this is the 6th round of survey in Nigeria, that MICS is one of the target sources of statistically sound and international comparable data on women and children worldwide, focusing on issues such as health, education, child protection, water and sanitation, among others.

According to Chief Executive Officer, the survey will also serve as a major source of data for accessing the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with over 20percent of the indicators required for tracking the SDGs soughed from the exercise.

Also, in his remarks, Clem Ikanade Agba, Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, commended federal government and stated that stakeholder should take advantage of the 2021 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey and National Immunization Coverage Survey Report and engage.

“As we must continuously promote the generation and use of data, statistics for evidence-based design, implementation as well as evaluation of project and programmes as enshrined in the national development plan 2021 to 2025.

“the launched survey report will immediately be disseminated across the six geo-political zones for wider coverage and utilization by all and sundry, “he added.
