The state Commissioner for Environment in Ekiti State, Iyabo Fakunle-Okieimen, has called on stakeholders in the forestry sector to inculcate the habit of tree planting to improve the internally generated revenue from the sector.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, the state Commissioner said the gesture became imperative to prevent the forests from going into extinction, Thisday reports.

“Tree planting is a veritable source of income, there was need to embark on investment in afforestation by individuals and organisations.”
While speaking on the 70,000 various species of tree seedlings distributed to serve as a springboard for aggressive afforestation move in the state, the commissioner said “Part of the seedlings would be sold while the remaining one would be distributed to private individuals to plant.”
The seedlings are those of Obeche, Afara, APA, Teak, Parkia, Brachystegia, Ayunre, Mahogany, Gmelina, Mansonia, Nutmeg), Ure, Ijebu, Ayin and Idigbo.
