By Rashidat Oladele
Edo State’s youth have expressed their appreciation for the state government’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and the training of young adults in green skills.
This commendation was voiced by a diverse group of young individuals who recently participated in a recent three-day intensive camp organized in Benin City by the Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, with support from GIZ and Romanpage Global, to commemorate International Youth Day 2023, under the theme, “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World.”
During this educational event, over 200 young participants were immersed in a wide range of topics, including creative skills, green skills, the Internet of Things (IoT) in green skills, the integration of artificial intelligence into the creative industry, and the transformative power of expressive arts therapy in promoting mental health healing.
One of the central focuses of the training was an exploration of the challenges associated with greenhouse gases and global warming, led by Director of Training in Business, Victor Obaro. The youths received guidance on adopting responsible behaviors to protect the environment and, in essence, safeguard the Earth.
Victor Obaro highlighted, “Most disasters are man-made and consequences of neglecting the climate. Thus, the training is designed to impart the best technology that can prevent adverse environmental impacts and promote green skills.”
Mr. Asiriuwa Victor, the Director of Youth at the Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, praised the impressive turnout of enthusiastic youths who participated in the program.
This initiative aims not only to educate the youth about their environment but also to instill a deep sense of responsibility for its preservation and sustainable growth.
By equipping the young generation with green skills and environmental awareness, Edo State is fostering a community of environmentally conscious individuals committed to preserving the state’s natural treasures and ensuring its continued prosperity.
