Drought threat: Clerics unite, pray to God for rain
By George George Idowu
Religious leaders in Kaduna State have come together and seek divine intervention from God to send down the rain as the drought persists in some part of the state and the country at large.
Pastor (Dr.) Yohanna Buru, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, has called on religious leaders across the state to unite in continuous prayers for rainfall.
He urged both Muslim and Christian communities, along with clerics in all 23 local government areas, to pray fervently to alleviate the worsening situation faced by farmers.
Dr. Buru highlighted the severe effects of climate change on this year’s rainfall, which has caused widespread distress among farmers.
He said: “Reports from across the state reveal that many crops are wilting and turning yellow due to the lack of sufficient rain.”
While speaking to journalists after distributing food to the needy, Dr. Buru emphasized that many local farmers, who have invested heavily in their fields, now face the grim reality of potential crop failure due to water scarcity.
He stressed the need for continued prayers and fasting to address the crisis and expressed his commitment to mobilizing more religious leaders to join in these efforts.
Dr. Buru also praised the Kaduna State government for distributing 15,000 tons of free fertilizer to 120,000 smallholder farmers and called for additional support during the dry season to prevent food shortages.
Similarly, Islamic scholar Alaramma Ibrahim Musa urged both Muslims and Christians to intensify their prayers for rain.
He emphasized the importance of continued supplication to ensure that farmers can grow enough food to combat hunger and address the rising cost of food.
Alaramma Musa also called for increased education on modern farming techniques and support for mechanized agriculture to help mitigate the effects of climate change and food scarcity.
Both leaders believe that united prayers and practical solutions are crucial to overcoming the challenges posed by the ongoing drought and ensuring a successful harvest for local farmers.
