Dredging at Calabar Port set to resume

The managing director of the NPA, Mohammed Bello Koko has announced
that Dredging of the Calabar channel in Nigeria is likely to restart after a
halt lasting 16 years.
Bello Koko, disclosed this during a visit to the port of Calabar recently
According to him, the matter has been resolved amicably through an out-of-
court settlement.
Bello Koko said that all outstanding issues surrounding the cancelled
dredge had been resolved.

The managing director was visiting the port of Calabar to see the facilities
and understand what issues were preventing the port from achieving its
rightful place among Nigerian ports.
He said that steps would be taken to enable the port of Calabar to generate
revenue for the Federal Government.
The port continues to be hindered by shallow water levels preventing
modern cargo ships from calling.
