Cross River govt warns palm-oil dealers against adulteration
The Cross River’s Commodity and Quality Control Board, has warned palm oil dealers in the state to refrain from adulterating the product, as such practice was dangerous to human health.
Mr Ogbiji Nyiam, Director-General of the board gave the warning during a meeting with the dealers on Tuesday in Calabar.
According to him, the dealers have been using dangerous chemicals hazardous to human health in colouring the oil to deceive members of the public.
Nyiam warned the dealers to stop such action forthwith.
“The management of the board will swing into action to always check the quality of palm oil and other commodities, either for consumption or industrial use in the state.
“All production of agricultural commodities must be protected and made safe for consumption. The board will embark on checks, especially on commodities produced in the state.
“We need to create a Cross River brand of Quality Management System according to International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), of 9001-2015 standards,” he said.
The D-G added that Nigerians deserved the best, as such producers and merchants must ensure that whatever they took to market, was absolutely safe for the people.
In his remarks, Alhaji Danlami Saleh, Chairman, Association of Oil Merchants in the state commended the board for the interaction, which according to him will foster synergy.
Saleh promised that the traders would cooperate with the board to ensure that the oil they take to market was safe for human consumption.
