College of Education plants 100 trees to mark environment day

The Federal College of Education (FCE) Zaria on Wednesday Zaria partake in marking 2024 World Environmental Day by planting 100 trees.

Led by Malam Halilu Hassan, Head of Safety and Environment at the college; the event featured the planting of 100 trees on campus, symbolizing the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

The tree planting ceremony was officially inaugurated by the college’s management. Representing the Provost, Dr. Suleiman Balarabe, the Deputy Provost, Dr. Haliru Musa, alongside Acting Registrar Mal. Shehu Iya Sai’du, lauded the efforts of Mal. Halilu Hassan and his team.

Dr. Musa expressed appreciation for their ongoing dedication to improving the college’s environmental standards and assured them of the management’s continued support.

World Environment Day, led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), has been celebrated annually on June 5 since 1973. As the largest global platform for environmental outreach, it engages millions of people worldwide.

The primary objective of World Environment Day is to raise awareness about environmental issues, encouraging communities to take proactive steps towards environmental protection.

It serves as a catalyst for advocating policy changes and promoting environmental policies at local, national, and international levels.

FCE Zaria’s tree planting initiative exemplifies the spirit of World Environment Day, highlighting the college’s commitment to fostering a sustainable future.
