BLOODSTONE

Bloodstone known as heliotrope is a cryptocrystalline mixture of quartz. It has a beautiful colour of green with red and brown spots resulting from stain on the iron oxide.
The stain/spots on the stone resembles a blood splash, hence the name “bloodstone”. The name “Heliotrope” is also gotten from two Greek words “Helio” meaning “sun” and “tropes” which means “towards the sun”.
Basically, bloodstone was conceived when blood from the pierced side of Jesus fell and stained a Jasper stone. The prominent or distinct variety of bloodstone are of two distinct colours which are the green and red but with different patterns which are unique to a particular stone. The blood red spots gives the bloodstone it’s unique name.
Bloodstone first originated and mined in India and it cut across other parts of the globe like Madagascar, China, Australia and Brazil. It’s formation occurs when their is reduction in temperature in the Earth’s shallow groundwaters, causing evaporation of water and bloodstone formation from silica in the Earth’s cavities and cracks.
Bloodstone has different meaning and usage in different cultures. In ancient times, it represents a stone of purification due to its cleansing attributes. They are used to eliminate evil spirit and foretell the future. They are symbol of Justice and courage and worn by warriors for protection.
Bloodstone is majorly used in making Jewelries and trinkets this is due to its prominent quality and colour. They make adorable beads, pendants, necklaces. It is also used in figurines.
Bloodstone are one of the inexpensive gems that comes in different sizes. It’s value is determined by the number of spots and colour. Stones that have more red and/or dark orange spots are highly valued and prized greatly
