Operatives of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, has discovered an illegal refining site of five million litres capacity of crude oil in Obuama Community, Oyigbo local government area of Rivers State.

The discovery is part of the Nigerian Army efforts against the illicit business in the Niger Delta region.

Speaking after conducting journalists round the bunkering site on Thursday, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdulsalam, decried the activities of illegal oil bunkering in the region.

The GOC regretted that the perpetrators of illegal business were determined to sabotage the Nigerian economy through their illegal oil deals.

He vowed that the Nigerian Army will stop at nothing in its effort to apprehend the sponsors of the economic crime and encouraged youths to embrace legitimate businesses.

Abdulsalam also warned that no one found to be engaged in oil theft will be spared no matter how highly placed.

The GOC further informed that the confiscated products will be handed over to relevant agencies for further action.

Other items also seized from the site included five wooden boats of about 2,000 litres capacity each, laden with adulterated petroleum products.
