National Palm Produce Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) and the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at weekend, to enhance cooperation in the palm oil industry.
The agreement which was signed in Abuja aimed to modernize production techniques, increase market reach, and improve income for smallholder farmers.
The President of NPPAN, Amb. Alphonsus Inyang, said the MoU would enable Nigerian smallholder farmers to gain access to advanced palm oil knowledge, technology, and economic opportunities, driving growth in the country’s palm oil sector.
The GAPKI Chairman, Mr. Eddy Martono, reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to supporting the development of Nigeria’s palm oil industry and fostering stronger bilateral cooperation.
He said Indonesia is looking to expand its palm oil market beyond traditional boundaries, with Nigeria positioned as a key strategic partner in this initiative.
Sahabi Muazu, Director of the Indonesian Embassy in Nigeria, expressed optimism that the agreement would catalyse growth in Nigeria’s palm oil industry.
The Deputy Secretary-General of GAPKI, Lolita Bangun, also emphasized Nigeria’s potential as a lucrative investment destination, citing the success of IndoMie in the Nigerian market.
She added that the partnership aims to increase palm oil exports to Nigeria to meet its growing demand, leveraging Indonesia’s expertise and Nigeria’s strategic location for mutual benefit.
