Akure Commercial Secondary School wins maiden Favour School Football tourney

Akure Commercial Secondary School, Ondo state has won the maiden edition of Favour Secondary School Football Competition organised for public schools in Akure metropolis.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 16 schools contested the competition from Oct.4 to Oct.14.

Akure Commercial Secondary School defeated Ejioba Secondary School 11-10 via penalty kicks in a fiercely contested final match that ended 2-2 in the regulation time on Friday at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.

Earlier, the third place match of the competition was an easy win for Command Day Secondary School after pummeling Adegbola Memorial Grammar School 4-0.

Akure Commercial Secondary School had defeated Command Day Secondary School 4-2 on penalties after playing goalless in duration time, while Ejioba defeated Adegbola Memorial Grammar School 5-0 in the semi final matches.

The sponsor of the competition, Prince Favour Adesida, said that the vision behind the competition was to promote grassroots football development, and to foster unity and peace using football as a means.

”I really appreciate what I saw here today, it is really encouraging and it showed that school sports has been neglected. We appeal to government and individuals to help bring back the glamour and interest attached to this kind of event,” he said.
