Akwa Ibom Teams Up with Turkish Govt to Drive Agricultural Development for Food Security
The Akwa Ibom State government, in collaboration with the Turkish government, is working towards the development of agriculture in the state to ensure food security.
During a courtesy visit to the ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nigeria, Hidayet Bayraktar, Governor Eno highlighted agriculture as a top priority for his administration. He expressed the state’s
willingness and readiness to partner with key players in the global agricultural sub-sector.
Turkey stands out for its high agricultural production per hectare and the provision of numerous opportunities and financial support for agribusiness. The country’s agricultural sector plays a crucial role in its economy, being a major producer of wheat, sugar, milk, poultry, cotton, tomatoes, and various fruits and vegetables. Additionally,
Turkey is recognized as the top producer of apricots and hazelnuts worldwide.
During the visit, Governor Eno toured the Green House at the Turkish embassy, affirming that Akwa Ibom, known as “one of the most peaceful states in the country,” possesses fertile land that, if maximally
cultivated, could provide sustenance for its people, the nation, and beyond.
Governor Eno stated, “Agriculture is our primary focus, and we would like to collaborate with you to achieve our goal of an agricultural revolution. I assure you that you will find Akwa Ibom State to be a
favorable partner.”
The Turkish ambassador to Nigeria expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for the visit and assured him that his country is ready to partner with the state government to accomplish its objective of revolutionizing the agricultural sector.
