Agency terminates N20m electricity project in Nasarawa State

The Nasarawa State Community and Social Development Agency (NSCSDA) has terminated a N20m electrification project in the Onda community, Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

Mr. Ahmed Saidu, the General Manager of the agency, announced this during a meeting with Onda community leaders in the area on Monday.

The electrification project also includes grading of the road from Kwotto to Onda and construction of two culverts along the road.

Saidu said the project is jointly funded by the World Bank and Nasarawa State government, noting that the revocation of the contract followed poor execution of the work by the contractor.

He said that the meeting was to find out what was hindering the progress of the project with a view to finding a workable solution.

“The mandate of this agency is to implement the World Bank Assisted Community and Social Development Project (CSDP).

“The overall goal of the project is to improve access to services for Human Development and Rural Development.

“The objective is to sustainably increase access of poor people to improved social and natural resource infrastructure. and to change their lives positively,” he said.

Saidu expressed displeasure over the poor handling and noncompletion of the project despite full payment to the contractor.

He noted that the job would be re-assigned to a new contractor, expected to complete the work within two weeks.

On his part, the Manager, Finance and Administration of the agency, Mr. Abdullahi Osheka, charged members of the benefiting communities to take ownership of the project by safeguarding them.

In their separate reactions, Messrs Umar Koku, Eshimotu Eji, Yakubu Ewa, and Isa Usman, leaders of Onda and Kumbese communities, respectively, commended the action of the agency.

Koku specifically assured that the residents would cooperate with the new contractor for timely completion of the project
