AfDB, Taraba Govt To Invest N100 Billion In Food Security

The Taraba State Government is partnering with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to secure a significant N100 billion Agricultural loan facility in order to boost food security in the state.
The project is being being implemented under the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone initiative.
A representative of the AfDB, Shuaibu Bello, revealed this during a tour on project sites in Lau and Karim Lamido Local Government Areas of the state at the weekend.
Speaking to stakeholders in Lau Karim Lamido LGS, Bello disclosed that a consortium of reputable companies from China, India, South Africa, and other nations will be cultivating about 1000 hectares of land in Lau, Karim Lamido, Wukari, and Sardauna Local Government areas.
He said the consortium will be involved in the construction of bridges and supporting farmers to enhance their crop yields.
He also noted that their presence in the state is part of the AfDB’s commitment to assist the State in securing a loan for the implementation of the project under the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone initiative.
He said that Lau and Karim Lamido LGAs have the potential to provide food for the nation, which could increase the state’s revenue.
He lauded the Taraba state government for its support in starting the project.
Responding, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Prof Nicholas Namessan, assured of the state government’s support for the establishment of the Agro-processing zones (SAPZ) in the three senatorial zones of the state.
