AEPB seals estate over poor sanitation in FCT
By Bisola Adeyemo
The Assistant Director, Sewage, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) Aminu Ja’afar, says the board would continue to sanction estates over poor sanitation in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Ja’afar made this known on Friday during the seal up of Rock City Estate in Mabuchi, Abuja over unhealthy sanitation.
Speaking on the reason for the seal up, Mr Ja’afar said the Estate was discharging waste water from toilet and kitchen without the use of soak away system thereby constituting nuisance to the environment.
“The discharge was from their toilets and kitchens go straight to the river where some other people use for their domestic needs and we in AEPB condemned this because it’s against the AEPB Act on environmental sanitation.” He stressed.
He further explain that the owner of the affected Estate has been served court summon but refused to obey hence the need for the action.
He said some other Estates within the capital city had equally been identified for the same offence and would soon be sealed up.
The Assistant Director explained that the Board had been embarking on enlightenment campaign on the need to maintain good sanitary condition in line with the Abuja masterpian on building construction.
Mr Ja’afar therefore advised owners of Estates in the FCT to always obey environmental laws to avoid sanction.
