Kogi delivers relief to Owara community flood victims

The Kogi State Government has distributed relief materials to victims of the recent flash flood in Owara community, Lokoja Local Government Area of the state.
The intervention, about three weeks after the disaster, provided essential items including rice, semovita, mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, and medical supplies to affected residents.
The distribution took place at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp located at UBE Junior Secondary School, Owara.
Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Mouktar Atimah, supervised the exercise and praised the governor’s quick response.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting victims and announced plans to evacuate residents from flood-prone areas to safer inland communities.
Atimah said other areas such as Budon and Kankanda will also receive similar relief.
Vice Chairperson of Lokoja LGA and Chairperson of the Local Government Emergency Management Committee, Hon. Patricia Balogun, thanked the state government for its timely intervention.
Also addressing the gathering, the Obaro of Omuwa, Alhaji Sheidu Adoga Aliyu, commended the state government’s support, expressing optimism that Owara, a predominantly farming community, would greatly benefit from continued agricultural assistance and other government programmes.
Community leaders and beneficiaries, including Mallam Hamza Yakubu, Mr. Shaibu Kashim, and Mrs. Amina Lawal, expressed appreciation for the government’s swift response and pledged their support for the current administration.
To further support affected residents, the Kogi State Ministry of Health provided free medical services during the relief distribution to address health concerns following the flood.
The event was attended by local government officials, Special Advisers to the Governor on emergency and IDP matters, security agencies, and SEMA staff.
