The word “fulgurite” originates from the latin word “fulgur” which means lightening. The formations may vary in their sizes, shape and compositions. These fascinating formations are sometimes called “lightning glass” or “petrified lightning.”
Fulgurites form during a lightning strike when the immense energy instantly melts sand or rock, creating hollow, tube-like glass structures.
