Ruptured Pipes Responsible for Toxic Emissions in Kapam Community, Kaduna – NESREA

By George George Idowu

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has linked the recent toxic emissions affecting the Kapam community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State to ruptured pipes at the Kaduna Refinery.

NESREA’s State Coordinator, Aminu Danmasami, disclosed this in an interview on Monday.

He explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the toxic emission was caused by a leak from pipes containing hydrogen chloride (HC).

The leakage mixed with rainwater, leading to acid-like emissions that spread into the community.

Residents of Kapam protested on Monday by blocking the Kaduna Refinery gate, demanding action on the harmful emissions.

Danmasami assured the public that the state government, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, is continuing its investigation to ensure the environmental and public health safety of the community.
