The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has vowed to reconstruct the Wagga-Madagali bridge in Adamawa State, which serves as a critical link between Adamawa and Borno States.
NEDC’s Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, disclosed this during an assessment visit to the area recently.
He expressed deep concern over the collapse and assured that the Commission would take all necessary steps to restore the bridge and the livelihoods of the affected communities.
According to him, the bridge was destroyed by severe flooding, severing transportation and trade between the two regions.

Alkali noted that the Commission’s primary mission is to provide essential services that directly impact the lives of people in the North East.
Accompanied by other NEDC officials and representatives from Triacta Construction Company, Alkali instructed an immediate survey of the bridge to expedite the reconstruction process.
He emphasized the importance of the Wagga-Madagali road and bridge, not only for Adamawa and Borno States but also for nearby villages and farms.
In his words: “The flooding has caused significant disruption, forcing commuters to offload and reload goods at both ends of the waterway where the bridge once stood.
“The bridge’s strategic location as the sole connection between northern Adamawa and southern Borno underscores its vital role in the region, heightening local concerns about the current situation,” he added.
