The federal government has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to donate 1,005 metric tons of grains to the people of Benue, as the nation continues to grapple with hunger and economic stagnation.
During the ceremony on Thursday in Makurdi, NEMA Director-General Zubaida Umar announced the donation.
According to her, this is part of the 42,000 metric tons of assorted food commodities from the National Strategic Reserve released by President Tinubu.
The commodities include maize, millet, sorghum, and garri.

Benue received 897 metric tons of maize (17,940 bags of 50kg) and 108 metric tons of garri (4,324 bags of 25kg).
Ms. Umar emphasized that a federal government sharing template ensures all local government areas receive an equal share.
The distribution committee includes local government chairmen, State Emergency Management Agency, traditional rulers, security agencies, faith-based organizations, and various local groups.
The Director General noted that 20% of the food items for each LGA are allocated to religious organizations and 3% to boarding schools.
Governor Hyacinth Alia thanked President Tinubu for his support and highlighted the state’s efforts to boost agricultural production and self-sufficiency.
