Lagos State Government has issued identity card to over 2000 Street sweepers following their data capturing exercise.
The initiative became reality as a result of partnership between Lagos State Waste Management Authority ( LAWMA) and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA).
Speaking during the event that took place at LAWMA’s headquarters, ljora Olopa, the Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, expressed happiness about the exercise and highlighted the identity card’s potential to impact the lives of the Street sweepers on their daily activities and financial transactions.
He said, “We are incredibly proud to collaborate with LASRRA to equip our hard working sweepers with these invaluable cards. The cards transcends mere plastic; they represent a gateway to multiple benefits that will empower them and elevate their social standing.”

According to Gbadegeshin, the identity cards issued to the streets sweepers serves as a legitimate form of identification, a crucial aspect often missing in their lives.
“These cards will empower them to navigate everyday interactions with greater confidence and foster a sense of belonging within the city,” he said, adding that the cards will unlock a spectrum of advantages that directly address the sweeper’s need and aspirations such as accessing healthcare services and applying for loans.
In her address during the event, the LASRRA General Manager, Mrs. Bilikis Abiola, explained that the initiative was a partnership with LAWMA, to help the Authority have a unique database of sanitation workers and to enable them access free healthcare services with the identification card.
Meanwhile, the State Government on Monday presents Alimosho Model City Plan to the public for people’s comment.
Members of the public are allowed to access the document at selected venues from Monday, 19th February to Wednesday 27th March, 2024.
The stakeholder’s engagement on the document will come up on Thursday April 4, 2024, so said the State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide.
