United Arab Emirates Marks 52nd Independence Anniversary with a Pledge to Sustainability

In a recent celebration of its 52nd Independence Anniversary, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has embraced the theme “Today for Tomorrow,” dedicating the year 2023 to sustainability.

This marks a significant commitment to initiatives, activities, and events aligned with the UAE’s core values of sustainability and pays homage to the enduring legacy of its Founding President, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The commemorative event, held under the auspices of His Excellency, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, saw the participation of eminent figures, including Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, alongside other Ministers and key Government officials.

The anniversary proceedings were presided over by the Deputy Senate President.

During the event, the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation expressed admiration for the UAE’s exceptional developmental strides.

She commended the nation for its unwavering commitment to sustainability and acknowledged the potential for collaboration between Nigeria and the UAE in expanding investment and humanitarian support initiatives.

As the UAE sets its sights on a sustainable future, the ‘Year of Sustainability’ aims to instigate positive change and foster cooperation on a global scale.

The celebration also serves as a platform for diplomatic engagement, symbolized by the presence of high-profile dignitaries at the anniversary event.

Looking ahead, the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation anticipates a fruitful engagement between Nigeria and the UAE at the upcoming COP 28, fostering collaboration in addressing pressing global challenges related to climate change.

The event marks a pivotal moment in the relationship between the two nations, as they come together to contribute to a sustainable and prosperous future.

The celebration’s central theme, ‘Today for Tomorrow,’ encapsulates the UAE’s commitment to building a legacy of sustainability for future generations.

As the world watches, the UAE continues to lead by example, showcasing its dedication to addressing pressing global issues and fostering international collaboration.
