Nigerian Naval Dockyard: Advancing Agriculture and Waterways Safety
The Nigerian Naval Dockyard Limited has achieved a remarkable milestone by constructing three warships, one fuel barge, one water barge, one houseboat, and six agricultural boats over the span of 11 years.
This exceptional feat underscores the nation’s commitment to bolstering its naval capabilities and maritime infrastructure.
Among the notable achievements are the construction of three formidable warships known as the Nigerian Navy Ships (NNS) Andoni, Karaduwa, and Odia.
These vessels, along with several other boats, barges, and specialized equipment, have been produced between 2012 and 2023, enhancing Nigeria’s maritime prowess.
Rear Admiral Bolaji Orederu, the Admiral Superintendent of the Dockyard, announced this remarkable accomplishment on Monday, highlighting the unwavering dedication and technical expertise of the Nigerian Naval Dockyard Limited.
In a significant development, Orederu also revealed that the Dockyard has received approval from the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, to embark on the construction of two additional ships for the Nigerian Navy.
This expansion is a testament to the Dockyard’s capacity to meet the nation’s growing maritime needs.
“We build ships, barges, boats, and offshore structures and also partner with other maritime players to do some construction and fabrication. All our vision, mission, and ideas are derived from the direction of the CNS to reposition the navy to greater heights to attain our constitutional roles. So, the Naval Dockyard Limited has a lot to offer the nation in terms of local contents, and this speaks much of our local content capabilities,” stated Orederu.
In a further demonstration of its versatility, the naval dockyard recently completed the construction of six agricultural boats in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
This initiative reflects the Dockyard’s commitment to promoting agricultural activities through the provision of specialized vessels.
