Lafarge: Nigerian CEO leads as El-Dokani assumes non-executive member

Lafarge Africa, the Nigerian branch of the largest cement manufacturer LafargeHolcim, has appointed a Nigerian executive named Lolu Alade-Akinyemi to take up leadership of the company as Khaled El-Dokani’s resigns.

The announcement was conveyed in a note to the Nigerian Exchange on Wednesday.

This decision was made during an emergency meeting of the board of directors, where they agreed to the current CEO Khaled El-Dokani’s departure from the company.

El-Dokani’s tenure will conclude at the end of June, culminating in three years of leadership, during which he successfully guided the cement maker to double its annual profit in 2020, even amidst the Covid-19 lockdowns.

The local unit of LafargeHolcim, Lafarge Africa, witnessed a significant increase in profits, rising from N15.5 billion to N30.8 billion compared to the previous year.

The exact reasons behind El-Dokani’s resignation were not disclosed by Lafarge Africa, but the company did mention that he would assume a non-executive director position once his current role concludes.

Lafarge Africa praised El-Dokani for his achievements in promoting a strong ethical culture, gender diversity, and sustainability principles, which align with the core values of the Holcim Group.
