The Government of Germany and Nigeria want to strengthen cooperation in the fight against global warming and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock revealed this on Tuesday in Abuja after a meeting with Nigerian counterpart Geoffrey Onyeama.
Baerbock said that the countries want to work together to tackle the devastating effect on the environment.
“greatest common global challenge, the greatest security threat for all of us in this world, the climate crisis.

The German Foreign Minister said Nigeria is one of the biggest emitters of carbon dioxide on the African continent. Adding that, this makes the Nigerian government’s plans for an energy transition aiming for climate-neutrality by 2060 all the more important.
“Taking this path together within the framework of energy partnerships in the sense of not only climate protection, but also the development of the local economy, is important for us together.
“There and in much of the region, climate change is a driver of terrorism and it is further fuelling existing resource conflicts,” such as those between farmers and herders.
“We know that the cancer of terrorism can destabilize a society and entire regions,” the minister said.
