South China seized smuggled frozen food worth over $7m

Coast guard in south China’s Guangdong Province said about 746 tonnes of smuggled frozen food worth over 50 million yuan (about 7.2 million U.S. dollars) has been seized recently.

The coast guard officials said in November they got a piece of reliable information which made them track a suspicious ship off the coast of Zhuhai, Guangdong.

According to the officials, the vessel was ordered to stop immediately for inspection but the people on board refused and sped away to the north.

However, their attempt to escape inspection failed as thirty containers full of tripe and other frozen foods were found.

Upon questioning, the people on board couldn’t present any valid documents for the items. The ship and goods were seized, and the suspects were arrested.

Further investigation is still underway, said, officials.
