Newly inaugurated UNILORIN poultry farm to produce 3.6m eggs annually

The newly inaugurated UNILORIN poultry farm will produce 3.6 million eggs annually.
A source, Ovienews disclosed this on Twitter on Wednesday.
The poultry farm which is to be inaugurated on Thursday by the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, is located at Amoyo in Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State.
According to the source, “Five months ago , Federal Govt through CBN handed N600m to UNILORIN for the establishment of a poultry to produce 5,000 broilers per week , raise 9000 day old broilers and churn out 3.6 million eggs annually.
“According to the project coordinator, Professor Mikhail Buhari, “the farm has in stock over 25,000 broilers and 17,000 layers” already with 50 people gainfully employed.
“ The university, through the private managers GgMax , will be a major supplier of 3 million cheap eggs.”
Buhari, who is also the university’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), described the farm project as “a game changer” in the annals of creativity in ivory towers leadership in Nigeria.
He pointed out that the project would contribute to the country’s efforts towards attaining self-sufficiency in poultry production and boost employment opportunities for Nigerian youths.
He described the project as a success story in view of the positive changes it has brought to the people of the host community and the transformation of a hitherto sleepy region into a busy and economically viable one.
