A day before President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo took the Astrazeneca Oxford Covid-19 vaccine, Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello disclosed he will not take the jab.
Speaking at an interactive session with Journalists in Abuja at the weekend, Bello faulted claims that coronavirus and all its variants pose a threat to Nigerians.
According to him, the Covid-19 protocols which emphasises safe distancing of one meter and other measures aimed at curtailing the spread of the virus exposes the contradictions and doubts about the disease.
If a man and his wife are in their house, there is no safe distancing, in the car on their way to the airport, no distancing but once they arrive at the airport, they are told to keep a one-meter distance apart.
Again, once they get on board, they sit together like other passengers so as far as I am concerned, there is no coronavirus, Bello said.
The governor maintained his earlier position that he will not take any vaccine against the disease arguing that the symptoms of the virus have been with Nigerians for a long time and there is nothing new about it.
He gave reasons why he rejected the N1.2 billion World Bank Covid-19 fund to cushion the effect of the disease but accepted the N1billion federal government fund.
“I accepted the Federal Government funds and rejected the World bank fund of N1.2b because it came with conditions that can enslave the future of our people. I will not be part of any policy that will enslave our future” Bello said.
