Zulum Launches 70 Buses for Metro Transport in Borno

By Salifu Faridat

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, revealed 70 brand-new buses on Monday for metro transport, a move aimed at easing the daily commute for both civil servants and the public.

The unveiling ceremony took place at the Borno Express terminus along the Kano-Maiduguri road.

The fleet includes standard-sized buses and larger ones to accommodate more passengers, all equipped with modern amenities like air conditioning and comfortable seating.

Governor Zulum highlighted that this initiative is part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the challenges caused by the removal of fuel subsidies. Out of the 70 buses, 30 will be dedicated to transporting civil servants during peak hours on weekdays, from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Governor Zulum urged the management to ensure these buses start operating promptly and emphasized that the focus should be on providing an affordable service rather than profit generation.

Additionally, the governor commended the Borno Express management for improving the Maiduguri terminus and promptly paying staff entitlements.

He also unveiled new structures at the terminus, which will serve as accommodations for travelers, restaurants, and offices.

It’s worth noting that all these construction projects were funded using internal revenue generated by the Borno Express company.
