Zimbabwe, Egypt cement aquaculture ties

By Daniel Itai

Zimbabwe and Egypt have pledged to work together to enhance aquaculture between the two African countries.

Aquaculture is the process of rearing, breeding, and harvesting aquatic species, both animals and plants, to enhance food production, restore threatened and endangered species populations, enhance wild stock populations, build aquariums and fish cultures, and restore habitats, according to Conserve Energy Future.

“We are glad to collaborate with the Zimbabwean Government to undertake aquaculture projects in Zimbabwe. As one of the top 100 companies in the world in the field of aquaculture, our aim is to elevate the standard of living for the people in Zimbabwe by creating numerous job opportunities in the aquaculture industry and providing a new and affordable source of clean protein.

“This will help to reduce the cost of protein in Zimbabwe and also enable Zimbabwe to export finished aquaculture products all over the world including which we as Evergreen are familiar with and I believe our projects will be a real sustainable development project creating more job opportunities,” said Dr Adel Almuslimany, CEO of Evergreen Egypt United.

In addition, the Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Willard Manungo, stated that the arrangement is a wwin-win.

“They wanted assurances regarding the macroeconomic environment and the remittance of profits if they invest in Zimbabwe. The Honourable Vice President assured them that once they invest, the Zimbabwe Investment Agency will oversee the implementation of rules to ensure that there is a win-win situation. The agency will provide guarantees that their investments are secure and there will be no bureaucratic hurdles. This will ensure a smooth process for their investment,” Manungo said.
