Recently, a young Nigerian environmental entrepreneur, Ridwan Abdulrazaq was recognised as the winner of the prestigious Prince’s Trust Global Sustainability Award at the 2024 Prince’s Trust Awards.
Ridwan emerged as the award winner due to his outstanding contributions to advancing solar energy in Nigeria.
As one of the Audit Engineers at Starsight Energy, Ridwan has introduced innovative and cost-effective solar solutions, significantly transforming the nation’s energy landscape.

Ridwan’s success is not without challenges. Recounting his journey through to success at the awards event, Ridwan said: “As of 2021, I encountered persistent obstacles in pursuing my ambition to enter the renewable energy sector. Through the Get Into Programme by Prince’s Trust International, which I discovered with the help of Field of Skills and Dreams (FSD), I experienced a turning point in achieving my aspirations.
“The professional energy and soft skills I gained have significantly enriched my personal and professional life. As a result, the Get Into Programme enabled me to secure my dream job, providing sustenance and profound fulfilment”, he added.
As a designer and auditor, Ridwan was recognized for his ground-breaking work in designing and delivering solar energy systems.
The Prince’s award recipient is helping to drive economic growth and lower carbon emissions as well as enhancing the lives of countless Nigerians especially in low-income rural areas.
