Yobe plans 197km “Green Line” road to enhance food security

The Yobe State Government recently announced plans to construct a 197-kilometer road across the state, designed to enhance farmers’ access to markets and enhance the state’s food security.
The new road, dubbed the ‘Green Line’, will stretch from Garin Alkali in Bade Local Government Area to Mutai in Gujba, passing through the federal road at Ngelzarma.
The project, which will span the three senatorial zones of Yobe, is part of the ongoing Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) in the state.
Speaking on the initiative, the project coordinator, Arc Musa Suleh Damagum, revealed that Governor Mai Mala Buni has prioritized the road construction as a key component of his administration’s infrastructure strategy.
“This project will create vital linkages for farmers in remote areas, ensuring they can transport their produce to market with ease,” Damagum explained, adding, “It’s not just about roads; it’s about improving livelihoods and food security for the people of Yobe.”
Governor Buni’s administration has been committed to enhancing rural development through several road projects, including the ongoing RAAMP, which aims to construct over 500 kilometers of roads across the state. The new roads will connect the state’s 178 wards, facilitating economic activities and promoting agricultural prosperity.
The construction of the Green Line road is expected to significantly improve transportation in the region, particularly for smallholder farmers who have long struggled with inadequate infrastructure.
The initiative will also help facilitate the efficient movement of agricultural products, a critical step towards addressing food insecurity in Yobe.
Damagum further praised Governor Buni’s leadership in advancing the state’s rural development agenda, noting that the completion of this project will provide lasting benefits for the agricultural sector and support the state’s broader economic growth
