Woeful Plateau crash out of Confed Cup

Plateau United’s hope of playing in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup was blown away in Libya on Wednesday, no thanks to a 3-0 loss to Al Akhdar in the reverse fixture of their play-off clash.

The Libyans advanced to the group stage on the away-goal rule courtesy of three second half goals.

Plateau United had won the first leg 4-1 in Abuja last week.

The Peace Boys held their hosts to a barren draw in the first half, but the Libyans began to breach their defense in the 58th minute.

Al Akhdar added a second goal in the 86th minute, while the third was deflected beyond the reach of Suraj Ayeleso, in goal for Plateau, in stoppage time, as the hosts claimed a 3-0 win.

The result further compounds Plateau United’s continental mishap, as they were initially eliminated from the CAF Champions League into the second tier continental competition.
