Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has commended the CCECC Nigeria Limited for its track records of efficiency and timely delivery on projects.
Barrister Wike said this during his inspection tour of on-going reconstruction and rehabilitation works in FCT on Friday ahead of the planned flagoff of Abuja Light Rail.
The Minister said the Abuja Rail Mass Transit Scheme will be inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in May as a signature project to mark the first year anniversary of the administration.
Barrister Wike expressed delight that the refurbishment and rehabilitation of train stations along the Abuja Metro route is currently 97% completed, adding that the projects will be ready ahead of May 29.
While confirming that Abuja mass rail projects are being completed in phases, he emphasized the need to strike a balance between cutting expenses and defending the interests of the masses.
The Minister, who said the FCT Administration will implement a robust transportation system to reduce crime and enhance security, said three bus terminals will be built for specific routes within the FCT.
It will be recalled that Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, in September last year also lauded the CCECC when its Chairman, Mr. Jason Zhang led some members of his management team on a courtesy call at the Presidential Villa.
Vice President Shettima described CCECC as part of Nigeria’s history, saying the Chinese construction giant has played a pivotal role in developing Nigeria’s landmark projects, adding that their commitment to the development of Nigeria and Africa is commendable.
“You have been in this country for 42 years. We have to commend you for all the beautiful initiatives and support over the years. We share a lot in common with the people of China, just as you have been with us through thick and thin. You have the financial fire power and the willingness to support Nigeria and other African countries without interfering in our local politics. This we appreciate a lot,” said the Vice President.
Vice President Shettima assured CCECC that the present administration will sustain the existing relationship with the company and the people of China, saying the Abuja rail project, like others, remains dear to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian people.
Speaking earlier, the Managing Director of CCECC, David Waig, reiterated the company’s commitment towards delivering the project within the stipulated period, saying CCECC will go above board and leave no stone unturned in ensuring the delivery of the Abuja light rail line come May, 2024.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communication, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, said CCECC Chairman was accompanied on the visit by Deputy Managing Directors of the company, Mr. Jaques Liao and Mr. Inain Guo, as well as General Manager (Business), Mr. Eric Yu.
