Why Nigeria suffers power outages – Minister

The Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, said Nigeria is currently experiencing power outages due to the breakdown of some National Integrated Power Plants.

Mamman said this via a Twitter post on Thursday.

He also listed some of the affected power plants that are having issues.

According to him, 7 power plants, namely; Sapele, Afam, Olonrunsogo, Omotosho, Ibom, Egbin, Alaoji and Ihovbor are broken down.

Also, 7 others “Geregu, Sapele, Omotosho, Gbarain, Omuku, Paras and Alaoji ” are having gas supply constraints. While Jebba Power Plant was shut down for annual maintenance.”

While apologising to the affected areas, the Minister stated, “I sincerely regret the recent power outages across the nation and the difficulties it has brought with it and wish to assure my fellow Nigerians that everyone involved is working assiduously to restore the national grid to its previous historical levels and exceed that.”
