W’Bank to Construct 1,500 Latrines in Katsina

By Abdullahi Lukman

The World Bank, in partnership with the Katsina State Government, is set to build 1,500 household latrines across three Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Katsina State.

This initiative, part of the 2025 Household Latrines Exercise under the World Bank-supported NG-SURWASH project, will benefit communities in Baure, Funtua, and Kafur LGAs.

Alhaji Ibrahim Dankaba, Executive Director of the state’s Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (STOWASSA), announced the development during an advocacy visit on Saturday.

He was represented by Mr. Muntari Sani-Saulawa, a Sanitation Officer.

The advocacy visit aimed to engage stakeholders and prepare for key activities under the project, including the formation of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Committees (WASHCOMs), establishment of Grievance Redress Committees (GRCs), and conducting household baseline surveys and screenings.

The project targets strengthening community involvement and supporting sustainable sanitation improvements.

Communities in Baure LGA, such as Garki, Babban-Mutum, and Yanduna, will receive a total of 125 latrines, while Funtua LGA’s Nassarawa and Dikke communities, and Mahuta and Gozaki in Kafur LGA, will each have 250 latrines.
