Water Scarcity: Kano Gov Declares State Of Emergency, orders water board to present demands

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano has issued a one-week ultimatum to the management of Kano State Water Board to present their demands, as part of efforts to alleviate the ongoing water crisis in the region.

This directive was given by the governor during his inspection visit to the Challawa Water Treatment Plant in Kano.

In his address to the media, the governor expressed his administration’s determination to resolve the issue of water scarcity and declared a state of emergency regarding the problem throughout the state.

“We have declared a state of emergency to tackle the problem of water shortage across the state. “It is imperative that we bring an end to this lingering issue and ensure our citizens have access to clean and adequate water supply.”

He emphasized the importance of putting an end to the prolonged water shortage and ensuring that the citizens have access to clean and sufficient water supply.

The governor expressed disappointment over the deteriorating condition of the facilities at the Challawa Water Treatment Plant and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises.

Governor Yusuf urged the residents of Kano to cooperate fully in finding a solution to the water scarcity problem.

Sakabu Lawal, the Director of Production at Challawa Water Treatment Plant, provided information on the challenges faced by the facility, revealing that only two out of the six water pumping machines are currently functional.

Prior to visiting the water treatment plant, Governor Yusuf conducted an official tour of various government facilities in Kano, including the School of Health Technology in Madobi, Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano State Drugs and Consumables Supply Agency, the abandoned Wuju-wuju road, and Dandolo cemetery.
