Senator Abba Moro said if the governor of Benue state is against water resources bill that the implications is that people of Benue State are against the bill and by all indications, he is against it because he represented certain portion of Benue people which means that at the end he will not be in support of the Bill.
Sen. Moro made this statement on Wednesday in Abuja, in an exclusive interview with NatureNews.Africa correspondence.
The senator stated that the governor is against the Bill because certain provisions in the bill shows that government wants control of the substantial part of the River bank and Benue state communities are resisting it because it is going to create a safe haven for the Fulani herdsmen and it is inimical to the state.
Senator Abba Moro who is representing Benue South Senatorial Districts, however, reiterated that water resources Bill that is currently in the green chamber has not come to the Senate yet and he recalled that the Bill was first introduced in 8th assembly and it was killed on its arrival because so many senators and house of representatives objected to the content.
Speaking further, he said at some points that people describe the Bill as the furnaralization of Nigeria and people were not keen on the Bill.
According to him, the house of representatives has reintroduced the bill for further deliberation and that there is serious resistance in the house already.
Meanwhile, Moro added that the Senate is waiting for the Bill to come and that they will take it as it comes with the views that the Senate will have to develop on it.
” But I will look at the aspect of the Bill that is beneficial to the people of Benue State.
” However, the Bill can be amended, if I see some portions that are okay for people of Benue State and make amendments if possible and support the bill.
“Otherwise, if it is inimical to the progress and development of my people, definitely I will oppose it,” he said.
