WAPAN warns against unhygienic practices in water production

The Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of Water Producers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN), Ebere Ibeawuchi has called on members of the association to shun unhygienic practices and not compromise quality standards in water production.
The chairman made the call at a one day seminar organised by the Alimosho branch, on Friday.
Speaking to reporters at the event, the leader of the association said the seminar was necessary to caution members on compromising standards especially now that the cost of production as risen.
“The tendency is there for water producers to compromise the quality standard, which would be detrimental to te health of consumers in Lagos state. We don’t want our members to compromise the quality because a lot of water-borne diseases today would be increased in the state and that would be injurious to the health of Lagosians. So we emphasised in all our meetings that inspire of the rising cost of production, quality must be maintained.” He said.
The vice chairman of the association also reiterated that members must take hygienic practices very seriously.
“We know the implications of giving people bad water to drink. We know water is life, but we cannot afford to give people unwholesome water to drink. So I advice them to take hygiene very very seriously.” She said
Pure water, also called sachet water is a common site in Lagos metropolis as well as other cities in the country.
It is a cheap source of assessing drinking water for many poor households and low income earners.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, represented by Ayodeji Olakunle, also warned water producers against producing water in unregistered factories as well as enlightened them on following NAFDAC regulations and ensuring that the mandate of the agency to safeguard the health of the nation is properly followed.
