Ahmed Wadada, the senator-elect for Nasarawa West, has pledged to introduce legislation encouraging lithium exploration in the region.
Wednesday in Keffi local government region of the state, shortly after receiving numerous visitors who came to congratulate him on his electoral triumph, Wadada made the commitment during an interview with newsmen.
Lithium is said to be abundant in the district, which is why Wadada wants to propose a measure for the exploration of the solid mineral after the 10th National Assembly is inaugurated.
According to him, the exploration and exploitation of lithium in the region will significantly contribute to creating jobs for locals and generating income for the federal, state, and municipal governments that control the solid mineral in the region.
“As legislators, it is our responsibility to enact laws that will advance society. We are endowed for the Nasarawa West Senatorial District. Due to the district’s abundance of natural resources, like lithium, you can now see Chinese nationals living there.
“We have lithium, a highly sensitive and significant natural resource, so it is up to us to choose how best to put legislation in place that will utilise, investigate, and unfold this natural resource and other potentials for the benefit of the people,” he said.
