The Chambers of the National Assembly began to leak profusely on Tuesday morning following a heavy downpour in Abuja.

Most affected was the foyer of the White House, the Nation gathered.

Cleaners in the National Assembly were seen placing containers at the leaking spots and mopping and drying up the arena which was becoming flooded.

According to the Nation, some Senators already in Chambers came out to have a view of the development.

Recall that the National Assembly had earmarked N37billion in the 2021 budget for repair of the complex.

The renovation of the National Assembly complex will gulp N37 billion from the N10.59 trillion 2020 Appropriation Bill passed on December 5, 2019 by the Ahmad Lawan-led ninth National Assembly.

The N37 billion is captured in the N2.5 trillion budgeted for capital projects by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) in the 2020 budget.

President Muhammadu Buhari had submitted N10.33 trillion to the National Assembly as the budget estimate for 2020, but the legislative arm jacked the figure up by N264 billion before transmitting it to the executive for presidential assent.

The figure however generated uproar and condemnation from Nigerians who contended that the amount was too huge.

The Presidency had since set up a committee to scrutinize the adjustment made to the appropriation bill before President Buhari will sign into law, ThisDay reported.
